Leader of the Enterprise Brand Design & Identity team, overseeing a 14-person in-house creative and strategy team in the management of the Capital One visual and verbal brand. Department leader for overall creative quality and brand consistency, partner to creatives and strategists across the company to develop product identity solutions and experiences and mentor to department creatives, with a focus on problem-solving and presentation skills. Key accomplishments:

  • Leads data-driven development, delivery, governance, and performance of the organization’s global brand identity systems including: visual style, personality, logo, naming, voice and tone, editorial, photography, typography, iconography, illustration, motion & animation, physical spaces

  • Serves as the central brand guardian and resident expert on brand identity strategy; partners across a highly matrixed organization and external agencies to secure alignment and ensure a unified brand expression across all customer touchpoints

  • Provides strategic direction and thought leadership to brand, creative, marketing and digital design partners, using audience insights and market data to drive strategic innovation and balance brand consistency with specific customer and platform relevancy needs

  • Led the global rollout and adoption plan of the enterprise brand refresh, including leading brand trainings, developing tools that inspire stewardship of the brand, and tracking quality assurance

  • Partners with Brand Insights teams to align brand health metrics customer associations with brand expressions and activations; and with Brand Governance team to assess highest-risk areas and craft guidelines to vet partnership opportunities and evaluate reputational risk

Providing strategic brand creative vision, design solutions and storytelling for clients across a variety of projects including digital, print, packaging and brand identity packages. Specializing in the needs of local small businesses and startups. Clients included World Wildlife Fund, HealthWarrior, The Directors Company and Milton’s Local. Key accomplishments:

  • Developed brand purpose, brand values and brand identity systems for local consumer packaged goods and retail startups, nonprofit organizations and brand consultancies

  • Helped launch companies, from naming and positioning to sales and investor materials

  • Created point-of-purchase and environmental installations for Health Warrior

  • Developed educational infographics and social assets for the World Wildlife Fund


VSA Partners / Chicago, IL & New York, NY

Creative lead for all design work out of the New York office. Led, managed and developed an 8-person creative studio and was responsible for the communication and coordination of IBM work between the Chicago & New York offices. Led employee engagement & transformation efforts for IBM, including digital workforce enablement tools and experiences, and environmental branding. Other clients included GE Healthcare, D’Addario, HillRom, Cargill and Strayer University. Key accomplishments:

  • Created core values, brand DNA and brand purpose for D’Addario, alongside a visual rebrand and complete packaging overhaul

  • Created digital tools, assets, and storytelling platforms, apps and interactive experiences for IBM to increase employee engagement and improve the IBMer experience

  • Developed multiple brand identity systems, ranging from brand refresh to complete rebrand

Team management, strategic development and design implementation for Fortune 500 clients. Led brand efforts for American Express, including an enterprise brand standards refresh and multimedia storytelling for global recruiting. Additional projects included consumer and corporate identity, digital design, packaging and retail environmental design for Target and Kahn Lucas. Key accomplishments:

  • Led a brand design refresh for American Express, including color, type and pattern evolutions

  • Led the design of multiple card products, including the airline and hotel co-brands, and new market / audience products, including teen and secured cards

  • Evolved the American Express Global HR brand, leading a series of global video and photo shoots and the development of an interactive recruiting website

  • Developed the Kahn Lucas “Dollie & Me” retail brand, including visual identity, website, in-store customer experience, photo library, product architecture and retail characters


Fairly Painless Advertising / Holland, MI

Conception, design, presentation, and production of various projects, including private label packaging, brand identity, print collateral, website design, broadcast, outdoor, magazine and newspaper ads, and annual reports. Clients included Herman Miller, Spartan Foods, Spectrum Health, Devos Children’s Hospital, and Turion Bamboo Traders. Key accomplishments:

  • Developed brand identity packages, marketing and sales collateral, websites and packaging suite for the Herman Miller accessories collection, Yves Behár Leaf Light collaboration and Get Real campaign

  • Designed print collateral and trade show booth designs for Turion Bamboo Traders

  • Concepted and art directed regional broadcast, out-of-home and radio campaigns for Devos Children’s Hospital and Spectrum Health
